First, Happy Thanksgiving to everybody. Second, sorry in advance. Last night I decided to update to spigot 1.7.2 which was great, however due to the MASSIVE size of our world (23GB) the system could not handle the update. Even with all the memory allocated and moving the world to another PC with an SSD drive, it would not update. So we had to reset the map. I still have a copy of the old world and i'm actively trying to convert it over. Since this is a major update it has to update the map. Usually with major updates it takes about 30 minutes to update, however in this case it didn't even give me a progress bar as it updated various parts of the regions. It just ran out of memory.

So be patient, we MAY get the world back but I know a lot of people have requested over the years we reset the map/economy, which is where we are at right now. I'm sorry for those who lost everything but we can rebuild. I'm from NY and it's what we've done for the past few years, we rebuilt.

Spawn is temporary for now, until we build a nice new spawn. We'll locate spawn NEAR the existing spawn should those of you wish to build NEAR spawn, you can do so now and your buildings will still remain close to the new spawn location.

And no, please do not ask for a copy of the world, it's 23GB and you can't load it in single player due to its size, at least I've yet to be able to. I can open it in MCEdit (after a 15 minute wait) and even then it takes forever to move around and do anything. I'll keep you all updated.

Seems every month theres a new version of MineCraft. 1.5.2 seems to be out and bukkit has a beta out. So we've updated to 1.5.2 - So please update your clients and let a staff member know of any bugs you find. Thanks.

April 1, 2013
We have updated to 1.5.1 - That's not an April Fool's joke, neither are the missing citizens from spawn. We're on a dev build of 1.5.1 for now but it works. So enjoy.

DOWNTIME NOTICE: Starting Friday, February 22, 2013 the server will be down for a few days while I move it's location. The server will be moved to the same speed internet connection but with plans to increase the speed 2x over the course of a few weeks. Sorry for the downtime, I know it's the weekend and the busy time, I'll try and get the server up as quickly as possible. Even as soon as Saturday night it could be up.

A new year, a new version. We're up to 1.4.6 now. Please update your clients and re-connect. YES I'm aware that nether blocks suddenly replaced a lot of other blocks, its odd. It's happening across the MC universe, probably just a slight bug. Just hang in there, hopefully it fixes itself in the next update.

December 9, 2012
Well it's been a pretty hectic last few weeks hasn't it. It seems the 1.4.5 bukkit dev's are just not holding yet, so after trying out lots of different versions I've decided to downgrade us to 1.4.4 - Hopefully this is stable. Now there is no recommended build or beta build for 1.4.4 so we're using the latest dev build. Some plugins are diabled for now: CraftIRC, CreatureBox, Citizens but with the exception of creaturebox, they are not major plugins. I'm thinking that creaturebox may never come back, as its no longer a supported plugin. Now, the plugin DOES work, but the problem is it generates constant logs which is filling up the hard drive. I may have to modify the plugin myself and turn off the logging feature.

In other news I was thinking of shutting the server down and letting someone else handle it, but its a massive server and i'd be afraid someone else may not have the processing power to host it. We have a dedicated box here for the MC server. It not a shared hosting solution where other servers are hosted, its an actual server that you can touch that does one thing, well two, hosts the MC server and this webpage. So I may host it and let someone just remote in and manage it. Still debating on that. I'm not about to just shut it down though, everybody has spent way too much time building their structures, thats the last thing I'd want to do.

And finally Me_Goes_RAWR is now a Mod 2. He's been on my radar for a while and it made sense to do it, since some of our regular mods are MIA for a few weeks now, some even a month. Where'd you guys go?

-Vycor

November 25, 2012
We have finally updated to 1.4.5 - This is a beta bukkit build but it should work. I tested most plugins, they all seem to work just fine. Let me know if there are any issues.

So not much has happened lately. Yes there have been a few updates to MC but ya know thats normal stuff. The biggest two things are

1. We are approaching our 1 year anniversary this upcoming Tuesday. Thats great news.
2. We will be merging with NStyleZ Gaming, which is a gaming group tht currently is dedicated to Counter-Strike Source and Counter-Strike: Global Offensive.

This merger won't have much of an impact on the server. We'll now be called (NY Minecraft Powered by NStyleZ Gaming), we'll have a sub-forum on the NStyleZ website and a few new moderators from the NStyleZ group. I myself admin one of the NStyleZ Gaming CS:GO Servers (64.156.14.55:27025). Game play, looks, etc... should all be the same. we may see a slight increase in new players but I don't expect any real changes.

That's about it for now, stay tuned for further updates.

Well not much new lately. I finally fixed the citizens plugin so that works. Other then that, everything is going smoothly. We also have a vent server now for those who want to chat in-game. Point your Ventrilio client's to nyminecraft.com (port 3784)

We have now updated the server 1.2.5 - Please update your MineCraft client in order to connect.

We now now updated to MC 1.2.4. Please update your MC client's so that you can join the server.

CreatureBox works again. The new version changed how you collect/place creatureboxes. So to place a creature box do the following:

1. Break the creaturebox via normal methods. You will be given a creature egg. Hold on to this.
2. Place a redstone torch where you want your creaturebox to appear.
3. With the creature egg in hand you collected, BREAK the redstone torch. A creaturebox will now appear for that mob type.

Easy enough. Its slightly weird how they do it, but with the new MineCraft changes, they use an egg system now. So that is what you will have to do.

So I know everybody has been asking about the new 1.23 updates. Well by this weekend, we will be updated. As I stated earlier, the server is going down Saturday and will be back up Sunday. So by Sunday night you should all be enjoying 1.23 at NY Minecraft. Make sure to use nyminecraft.no-ip.org for your connections, as we are moving the server and the IP will have changed. Im running some tests tonight, and if all goes well, maybe even tonight/tomorrow you can enjoy 1.23 goodness. There may be some bugs, but we will address them as we notice them. Again, everything is still in beta/dev mode, so bugs are to be expected. Since bukkit is not officially released yet, there are no official 1.23 updates.

Sunday, March 4, 2012
So yes we're aware there is a new MC version, 1.2 - But like always we have not updated yet. That is how most servers are actually. I have tested a few plugins and for the most part, they work, but the main ones are problematic still, mainly lockette. That is a big plugin we use so until the new version comes out, you should not upgrade MineCraft. Bukkit has not even released a version yet, there are still betas. So please, do not upgrade till we tell you to do so. If you have already, well you'll need to go downgrade via the link/instructioins below. By this point you should know NOT to upgrade when the latest version of MC comes out, because servers never upgrade right away (not if they use lots of plugins like us).

In other news, the server will be going down Saturday night, March 10th. Probably around 10pm EST. It will come back up sometime on Sunday, March 11th. The server is being physically moved during that time. Sorry for this downtime in advance, but I'm sure going outside and getting some fresh air for a day won't hurt most of you.

So the server is back up. Some of you may not have even known but it was down for 24 hours while I moved it around and what not. If you don't see the server online and you are using the IP address, that is probably why. The IP address has changed. Please use nyminecraft.com as the ip/host to connect to it. Or if that does not work, try nyminecraft.no-ip.org which will ALWAYS work no matter where it is (the DNS updates didn't take effect on most people yet is why).

Monday, January 16, 2012
So I decided to add an online store to the site. With this store you are able to purchase in-game items for real money. So if you have a few dollars you want to spend and need say diamonds or a mob spawner, head on over to the online store and pickup a few in-game items. Purchases are immediatly given to you in game as soon as you make the purchase. Just make sure you are logged onto the server when you submit payment or the item may not be sent to you.

It's official, we are now running 1.1 - bukkit isn't officially out yet but the dev version seems to work okay. So make sure you update your clients now so you can get on the server.

-Vycor

Thursday, January 12, 2012
Did you update to Minecrat 1.1? Can't login to the NY Minecraft Server anymore? Well that's because we don't run the newest version yet. Nor do we plan to until bukkit comes out with a stable release. Like most servers, when MC comes out with an update, we don't update right away. We have to wait for bukkit to update their server files first. Bukkit is the program that basically lets us host a minecraft server. But, we can help you if you did update. Simply download the following file:

minecraft.jar

and replace your current minecraft.jar file

Windows 7
1. Click Start Menu (lower left corner)
2. Then go to Run
3. Type in %appdata%
4. There will be a window popup, browse in there you should find a .minecraft folder 5. Go inside .minecraft folder, then go into bin folder 6. Now you should see minecraft.jar

Mac OS
1. Open Finder.app
2. Click “Go” in menubar
3. Then choose “Go to folder…”
4. Type in “~/Library/Application Support/Minecraft/bin” (without quotes)

Just replace the minecraft.jar you find with the one above for download. If it asks you to update your client, do not update as you will not be able to join our server.

Okay so the whole mob arena idea didn't exactly work out well. The plugin had issues and kept crashing so we had to do away with it. I put some mob spawners in the Mob Arena so you can go there if you like (/warp MobArena).

But in other news, we now have Factions! You asked for it, I listened, and its installed. Now, because we didn't want to upset the main world, there is a completely seperate world now for Factions. You can get to this world two ways:

1) /warp Faction
2) Use the portal outside the spawn doors (look left)

This way the main world is not touched and people who do not wish to participate are not affected. In the Faction world there are no rules. If you want your property protected, you better create a faction and claim land. We will also not alter the time/weather upon request like we would in the main world. Also keep in mind you cannot use faction commands in any other world except the faction world. So if you are trying to join/create a faction, and you are having bad luck, make sure you are in the faction world.

For a tutorial on how to use the commands see this link: http://massivecraft.com/plugins/factions

For a video on how to use Factions see this link: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=0oa1A3dkq1s&feature=player_embedded

Well first Happy New Year everybody! We've come a long way in the 3 months since we first opened. We now have 50 slots available and at ceratin times we're close to max capacity. I'd like to welcome a few new mods to the server. skyrocket62 and Wolfsky. Also AngelMalus has been promoted to Mod 1. Thanks for the support guys.

For those who were on Tuesday morning (about 1am EST) they got to experience a new plugin we installed. We now have a working Mob Arena. You can /warp MobArena to see what it's all about. You basically get to go through different levels fighting mobs that spawn. The longer you survive, the better your price is. Please note, that while you are visiting the mob arena (even as a guest) god mode will not work that goes for Moderators, Donators and even me, the owner of the server. Even if you are viewing the action watch out for general mobs in the area, as they will kill you. You will see a notice on the screen once you enter the mob kill zone. You've been warned. Please follow the rules and enjoy.

Well I hope everybody had a good Christmas and Hanukah (spelling). For those who don't know (which is many of you) we now have an IRC channel with a Bot that communicates with the Minecraft Server. Head on over to irc.esper.net - #nyminecraft and hang out. You can send chat commands from IRC to the Minecraft server by typing in .say message_here - All chat commands in the actual minecraft server are automatically shown in the IRC channel. For those who don't know what IRC is, well you'll have to google that. I'll be adding a java-based IRC plugin here one day for those who don't use an IRC to client to utlize. Anyway, enjoy.

Click here to join the IRC chat via your web-browser.

It could happen at anytime between 7pm and 8pm (eastern time) so make sure you are on for your chance to win. We'll have some runner-up prizes as well so don't worry. If we max out the server then EVERYBODY WINS.

So what have we been up to lately? Well first I hope everybody had a good Thanksgiving, I know I did. Other then that, we've just been kind of hanging in there waiting for bukkit to release updates. We've been putting in the latest dev builds as we get them. I also went ahead and updated Essentials to the latest and put on a different version of Dynamic Map. We were running a dev build of that but I decided to go with the stable build, since the dev build didnt have any real features we cared about. I've enabled HD maps as well which looks amazing. Some of you may have noticed a bit of lag today, that was due to a full render being done on the maps. Dynamic map only renders what people walk over, and with an entire brand new installation of Dynamic Maps, there was nothing rendered. Soooo I forced a render. Some areas are still blank but they will get filled in over time. Here are a few screenshots of the Dynamic Map:

These images are zoomed out a bit as well. You can actually zoom in very close and get very good details. Give it a look.

So what's new... well I removed the MCBans plugin, as it seemed to be causing lag and crashes. So far the server seems pretty stable. It does crash here and there but what can we expect as there is no stable release of bukkit yet. We are a few bukkit dev versions behind still. I plan on updating to the latest once the server is empty. It's been full of people all day, which is good.

Other then that the only new addition is theres now a live player count/server status on every page here. If you look in the top right of the page, you'll see that info. Also if you go to the server info page, you'll see a live player list. Refresh your browser to see this update.

Monday, November 21, 2011
Okay so the server still seems to be lagging a bit. I believe its still the internet provider in the area. Optimum Online. I live 7 miles down the road and I use Optimum also and im getting really crappy speeds at home. The downloads at my office seem good but the uploads are horrible, and thats what matters for hosting MineCraft. So I do apologize I just need to wait it out really.

As for MineCraft 1.0 - All seems to work so far. We have an issue with 1 plugin, instapick, so thats not working for our donators right now (well actually nobody is at that level so we're good there). Mods are using a different version of it for now. The new "The End" area, is disabled, sort of, for now. IT causes the server to crash (as bukkit is still not an official stable release yet). So please stay out of "The End". I've closed off the spawn's portal to it, but it causes issues still. Other then that, we're still waiting for an official bukkit release. I upgraded to the latest build they had available (build #1487... but at the time of this writing i see they are at #1488 now) but its still being tweeked. So hang in there everybody.

-Vycor

Sunday, November 20, 2011
We are now running Minecraft 1.0 - While there isn't a stable bukkit release, we are using one of the builds currently to get things rolling. So far it seems to work fine. Please let a moderator know if you notice any bugs. Enjoy folks!

-Vycor

Saturday, November 19, 2011
I apologize to our players who are experneicing lag. It seems to be an issue in my area with the ISP. Im only getting about 45Mbps/1Mbps at my office, where this server is hosted. And my home ISP is only getting about 2Mbps/4Mbps itself which is LOW. Im using the same ISP so its definitly an ISP issue. Hopefully it will be fixed soon.

So I added two more plugins today. The first is the /modreq plugin. This allows you to request a moderators help. Just do: /modreq and this will add your request to the que for a moderator to fulfill.

The 2nd mod is one I've been meaning to add for a while. The famous TreeDrop mod. Just cut down a tree and as the leaves decay, random apples will fall. What's better then that right? Enjoy.

Friday, November 18, 2011
Okay so YAY Minecraft is finally up to the release version 1.0 Whats that mean for us? Nothing much. Since bukkit is still working on their new version we'll be at 1.8.1 on this server. Did you update? Yes? Well thats okay, I'll make it easy for you. You can download the 1.8.1 minecraft.jar right here. So go ahead, play on 1.0 and then revert back to thsi one.

minecraft.jar

Wheres this go? Well for Windows 7 users click on that neat Windows icon, then type in the search or run field %appdata% - then go into the .minecraft folder then go into the bin folder - this is where the .jar go. If your on a mac, well thats your first problem (grin), sorry can't help you there.

-Vycor

Tuesday, November 15, 2011
Well the server is now upgraded as far as hardware goes. It took longer then expected, as I had to reinstall the operating system. But all is well now. People say things are running faster. I sure hope so. Im only a few miles down the road so Im not noticing too much of a difference. The big difference will be in the SQL statements/etc.. I also decided to try running the server in Ramdisk. That basically means i took 4GB of the RAM (since I have 16GB in the server) and im using that to store the data on, rather then the actual HD. The Ramdisk auto-saves to the HD every 5 minutes so thats good. I also backup the server every night and im going to look into hourly backups of the world files. Anyway let me know how everything runs if your on the forum/online.

-Vycor

Monday, November 14, 2011
So few new updates today.

#1) You can now use nyminecraft.com as the host name to connect to the minecraft server. This points back to the correct server.

#2) WragCastle has replaced hawk821 and pandasplaytetris as a moderator. He's been a supporter since day one and has a rather large city he works on. So he's a great choice for a moderator.

So we've had a rough past few days but it seems we've made it through. For those who don't know we had a few griefers come by (some of whom were regulars) but all is well now. They realized their mistakes and have apologized and all is forgotten.

But today I logged on and saw about 26 people on. Actually as I write this update, there are currently 28 people on the server. Seems shes hanging in there but I decided to go ahead and order the upgrades even though we have not reached our donation goal yet. Im hopefull people will continue to contribute what they can to help cover the costs. But what I've ordered is a new motherboard, 8GB more of ram (giving us a total of 32GB) and a new i7-2600 Processor. Thats over 3x the speed of the current processor. So this should help fix any lag problems people have been having. The parts should be in on Tuesday so Tuesday i'll try and upgrade the system during the day, when everybody is not around.

Saturday, November 5, 2011
Well the server seems to be getting busier and busier. And I think everybody is starting to feel a bit of lag when we get to around 20 people. So it may be time to purchase some new hardware. I just put in a quad-core processor a few weeks. I had it in stock so I just had to buy a motherboard/memory. But its only an older style quad-core processor, nothing too fancy. What i'd like to put in is a nice quad-core i7 chip and up the memory from 8GB to 16GB. To do that, i'd also need a new motherboard. So my goal is to collect a total of $596.14. To date I've collected $110 so we're well on our way to getting a newer server. If youc an donate, please do so. You'll get extra privilages and you'll be helping to get everybody a nice fast server to play on. Thanks all.

Saturday, November 5, 2011
Well we've been pretty busy it seems. We added a new mod, a Physics mod that lets pistons push you, which can be fun. We've also expanded spawn a bit, added a few more plots and a mob killing machine (just drops mobs into lava for fun). If you enjoy playing on our server i'd like to ask that you vote on it as a favorite. You can click the banner below and then vote for it on server list page. Thanks.

Wow we've had a busy week. And we've come even further since our opening a few weeks ago. For those who were not aware, the old Florida Minecraft host came back up. What happened was exo (old server account owner) let the Florida Minecraft Server hosting run out and they ended up cancelling the account. After a few weeks, the hosting company re-issued the IP address to a new person. Thats all fine. But exo still has the florida hostname pointing to that IP, so people are thinking Florida's Minecraft Server is back up, when in fact, it is not. I actually spoke with tr33 about the status of Florida and at this point, its still unknown what may happen, so looks like this is still everybodys new home.

I'm trying out a new anti-griefing plugin called Hawkeye, which is based on the same principals as BigBrother. It seems like its working great for the most part. We had a few issues with it crashing the server since it was logging every single lava/water flow, but i turned those off and its working nicely now. We can actually preview rollbacks before we make them happen and it has a nice web interface we're using to search for things quickly. All-in-all, the mods love it.

I started working on a new spawn. Its an island I found thats surrounded by water/fences with a huge main building. This will not be open for the public to build, as its the servers spawnining point. Its still a work in progress but if you follow us on the forums, you can see some sneak peaks of the structures as I build them.

Took a walk around the server today, figured i'd post some photos of whats been happening lately:

Well. We've come a long way since we first opened up. It was only a week and a half ago that I started up the server and now here we are with a webpage finally. For those who are not familiar with the New York Minecraft Server, let me take a moment to introduce myself and explain who we are.

I am Vycor, the owner of the server. I started this server when my usual server went down for maintenance, and never came up. See about a month or two ago I found a great Minecraft server called the Florida Minecraft Server. Ironically, it wasn't even hosted in Florida. Anyway I became friends with everybody on the server and had a blast hanging out and building new things. One day Notch decided to push out the 1.8.1 update and of course, the Florida Minecraft Server updated eventually. Well when that happened the server was up for a day when the owners realized they had issues with their permissions plugin. So the server went down while they fixed the issues. Well... the server never came back up, and we never heard why or heard any updates. Days went by and soon it was weeks and we still had no updates. Eventually rumors started coming around about how the two owners were on different sides of the table with one wanting to bring it back up and the other wanting nothing to do with it. Well eventually I got tired of waiting around with no word, so I started the server and the regulars started playing here.

Its now a week and a half later since we officially opened and the latest word is that the old server isn't coming back, as the hosting was cancelled, etc... So it looks like this is our new home, and we're happy to start over. We have some good moderators who are helping out and some great players. We don't put up with any childishness and griefers are being handled (look, this is NY, don't worry about how you just go enjoy your nice game of Minecraft, okay?).

So with that little intro out of the way I hope you enjoy the server. This will be a simple webpage because I honestly don't have the time to make something massive (I was a web designer back in the day, but gave that up a while ago).

Anyway, its a webpage, so use the links at the top and have fun.
